THERES STILL HOPE

UTley-731712It was a tough loss for the Phillies and their fans on Wednesday. It left a bad taste in all of our mouths. We expected a repeat, but we’re not worrying about the World Series loss.

First of all, almost all of the Phils lineup is coming back. They were the National League leaders in RBI, runs scored and home runs. Expect a repeat of that next year, as nobody is a queston mark to come back.

The team has some of the best hitters in baseball batting 1-5. Jimmy Rollins, who didn’t have a great year but he is still an MVP caliber leadoff hitter; Shane Victorino, the Flyin’ Hawaiian; Chase Utley, who tied Reggie Jackson’s record of most home runs in a World Series (5); Ryan Howard, who is a lock for at least 45 homers a year; and Jason Werth, who has been breaking out since his arrival in Philly.

There’s also one of the best pitching rotations in the majors. There’s Cole Hamels, who didn’t have a great year (like Rollins), but can still pitch and is fairly young. Cliff Lee is a complete beast. Joe Blanton always seems to let up 3-4 runs but keeps the Phils in the game. And then there’s J.A. Happ, probably the best rookie pitcher in the National League last year. The number 5 spot in the rotation seems to be a toss up.

Brett Myers is back from surgery, Chan-Ho Park showed that he can still pitch in game 6 (even though he is probably better suited for the bullpen), and Kyle Drabek, a prospect who put minor league hitters to shame last year, can all fight for that fifth position in the rotation next year.

No matter which way we go, there should be a quality pitcher at the back end of the rotation.

The bullpen is a HUGE question mark. Jamie Moyer is probably done forever, so don’t expect him to be there for long relief. Brad Lidge was a huge disappointment this year, blowing the most saves in the league. Ryan Madson is not a real closer. Chad Durbin… what can I say, he is horrible. Scott Eyre is old and could retire. Management needs to bring in some free agent pitchers.

Other than the bullpen, the Phils have a great team that is still young and can only get better.

Philadelphia has talent and *COUGH* didn’t buy their way into the World Series *COUGH*.

GO PHILS

YANKEES-SUCK-sticker

lets go pedro!

If we win today, either Cliff Lee or Cole Hamels will pitch game 7. Maybe even both…. 4.5 innings each?

Still Hanging By A Thread!

The Phillies won monday, sending the series back to the Bronx, the Yankees up 3-2. Cliff Lee pitched an amazing game to keep up the Phillies chances. Chase Utley is now tied for the most homeruns in a World Series (Reggie Jackson- 5) Lets see what they can doin the Bronx on Wednesday! Go Phils50193301

Dear Readers:

I have not had time to keep this site up, due to school and football. I have since made a comeback due to the Phillies World Series hopes and the Eagles Super Bowl hopes. Go eagles and phillies. RIP Harry and Whitey

Former Temple Player: Soon To Be A Great NFL Returner?

nfl_a_shelton1_sw_300Born in Florida, Travis Shelton was born fast. He is the cousin of the infamous Devin Hester, who holds several NFL records for kick returning.

He is also the cousin of Browns linebacker, Andra Davis. Being an NFL player is in his blood.

At high school in South Florida, he was both a football player and a track runner. He placed in the top ten in almost every running category for the state.

He also returned four kicks/punts back for touchdowns in his great high school career.

His 40 speed is 4.27, an amazing time for any position.

After Travis’ high school career, he decided to enroll at Temple as his college choice. In his freshman year, he scored one touchdown, and ran in the 100m for Temple.

He was redshirted his sophomore year.

As a third-year sophomore, he set the record for longest kick return in the Owls’ modern era. He also had 311 all purpose yards vs. Northern Illinois.

He finished the year with 778 return yards and a touchdown; he was breaking out.

In 2007, his junior year, he did not have a touchdown despite his great return numbers. He also tied his career high in receptions that year, but again, did not have a touchdown.

His senior year was arguably his best. He led the NCAA in average yards per kick return, and again, tied his career reception record, 20.

Finished his career at Temple with the most career return yards in school history.

Travis was undrafted, but signed by the Broncos. After minicamp, the Broncos dropped him, only to pick him up again.

In the Broncos’ first preseason game, Shelton did not play, but was suited, as I saw #13 on the sidelines. He hopes to play in a couple of preseason games so he can show off his speed.

In fact, he is so fast that he even beats his cousin, Hester, at the annual family picnic. They race in the 100m, and more often than not, Travis Shelton takes all the marbles.

So, the question for everyone is:

Will Travis Shelton get a chance to show off his speed as a returner in Denver?

The Broncos have a great returner already, in Eddie Royal, so what will happen to Travis?

First of all, Travis Shelton is a class act. He is one of the nicest NFL players I have known. He’s not like so many other athletes who just blow you off.

I believe that he will get his shot, and show everyone that he is one of the fastest guys around, and can return kicks, even if its not with the Broncos. Who knows, he may help someone with his all-purpose ability.

He did not play in the Broncos first preseason game against the 49ers, but we are hopeful he will get his chance.

In the second preseason game, he got in on 5 plays. He did not get the ball, but he did go in motion once (ooooo).

If you don’t believe me, believe this video:

He is number 22 on Temple in the highlight video, if you didn’t see him because he was moving so fast.. ;) 3846758

Maclin Shows Up To Camp, Finally!

122383_feature

One day after Jeremy Maclin signed his 5-year deal with the Eagles, he is on the field for camp. He missed almost a week and a half when he could not settle his contract dispute with the Eagles.

Not only did he miss the mandatory rookie camp last week, he missed half of the whole teams camp this week. He will probably be a little bit behind the eight ball at camp. He better learn quick, because many players are still looking for a spot on the receiver squad.

One of those players is Reggie Brown. He has battled injuries his whole career. His heath is a question mark to the Eagles, and that may be a reason why the Eagles brought in Maclin, to take his spot.

Jeremy Maclin said he is eager to play for the Eagles and he needs to show it now in camp. He needs to show off his ability to run, catch and return. He may be behind the eight ball on the plays and formations, but he is ahead of the game with his speed and quickness.

I expect Maclin to learn the playbook quick, and in no time he will be caught up on what all of the players learned last week. He will need to dazzle the coaches first, as they have seen every other receiver except him this year.

Breaking News: Jeremy Maclin Finally Signs With Eagles

In the 2009 NFL draft, the Philadelphia Eagles traded up two picks to draft Jeremy Maclin at number 19. Every Eagles fan was happy. We got a guy who can run, catch, and return kicks, something we really haven’t had since Brian Mitchell.

Maclin caught 102 passes with 1260 yards and 13 touchdowns as a redshirt sophomore last season at Mizzou. The year before, he caught 80 with 1055 yards and nine touchdowns as a freshman.

Returning the ball, Maclin had five career touchdowns in two years. He also had over 2000 career return yards in just those two years.

Maclin also throws the ball. Not well but he can. His stats are as follows: 1/2, one int, 0 yards. Ok so maybe we won’t use him as quarterback, but he is a very versatile person who will help the Eagles a lot. He won’t give Donovan a run for his money at the quarterback position.

Rushing wise, he had 40 carries and two touchdowns as a sophomore, and 51 rushes with four touchdowns as a freshman. This shows that he can also run the ball if McCoy is not what he is said to be and if Westbrook gets hurt. He may be a bit small to take all those crushing blows from linebackers, but he may do well if he takes just a couple carries a game.

Today, the Eagles finally sign Maclin to a 5 year deal with 9.5 million guaranteed. The signing happened after Maclin was a no-show to camp for a week. Tuesday, he should be at camp, and be ready for his duties as an Eagle.

I, and my fellow Eagle fans, expect many great things from Maclin. He should be a dual kick returner with Desean Jackson, and also be a slot receiver. He may be what puts the Eagles over the line and leads them to victory.jeremy maclin
